The heart of the righteous studieth to answer: but the mouth of the wicked poureth out evil things.

Which character do we most often represent? Do we think and "study" before we answer, as the righteous? Or do we take on the character of the wicked and "pour out" whatever we want to - good or bad?
As I pondered this verse, the image of a watering hose came to mind. If we simply turn on the water and allow the hose to do whatever it wishes, water will gush out and rapidly flood the surrounding land. If, however, we direct the hose, using our finger to intensify the stream of water, we can manage the water pattern more easily and get much more accomplished. Less water is used, but more profit is done.
Perhaps that is the case with our words. We can resemble the wicked and let our words flow without guidance or restrictions and cause great damage to those around us, or we can be like the righteous and use our words carefully, directing them with prayer to be most effective.

Psalm 18:34-35
He teacheth my hands to war, so that a bow of steel is broken by mine arms. Thou hast given me the shield of thy salvation: thy right hand hath holden me up, and thy gentleness hath made me great.
The first part of this passage inspires me with the promise that this spiritual war is fought, not with my own power, but His. We are able to do impossible things (not just difficult things or improbable things, but truly IMPOSSIBLE things) with our God's power! The second thing that struck me about this passage was the last part: "Thy gentleness hath made me great." Who thinks of God as being gentle? We're used to Him wielding His power, not consciously laying it aside to meet with us on our level (as He did in the form of Jesus Christ). God's gentleness--it reminds me of a certain carpenter who took children in His arms to bless them.
Hello! I know that I have been remiss in reporting my progress these last weeks, but I have indeed been working on my memorization. I started out a bit late, so I am still a little behind, but I am in the middle of working on Proverbs 4. (I'll try to be more faithful in updating!) Here is Psalm 1 (which I memorized first) completely from memory...
-Psalm 1-
Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly,
Nor standeth in the way of sinners,
Nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.
But his delight is in the law of the Lord;
And in His law doth he meditate day and night.
And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water,
That bringeth forth his fruit in his season;
The ungodly are not so: but are like the chaff which the wind driveth away.
Therefore the ungodly shall not stand in the judgment,
Nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous.
For the Lord knoweth the way of the righteous:
But the way of the ungodly shall perish.
This week I memorized James 3:1-2.

My verse for this week is a continuation of my passage from last week: Colossians 1:12-14
"and giving joyful thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of His holy people in the kingdom of light. For He has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son He loves, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins."

I am a bit late this week reporting my verse, but oh well! Better late than never? :)
I am memorizing Psalm 63:1: "O God, thou art my God; early will I seek thee: my soul thirsteth for thee, my flesh longeth for thee in a dry and thirsty land, where no water is;". It was kinda neat, because I didn't know what verse to memorize next, then when I was reading one day, this one jumped out at me. :)
