--3 of 52--

"Gather the people together, men, and women, and children, and thy stranger that is within thy gates, that they may hear, and that they may learn, and fear the Lord your God, and observe to do all the words of this law: And that their children, which have not known any thing, may hear, and learn to fear the Lord your God, as long as ye live in the land whither ye go over Jordan to possess it."
Deuteronomy 31:12-13 (KJV)

These verses struck me with the importance there is in everyone gathering together to hear God's Word. Many people underestimate the understanding of a child; yet here, God groups them with the men and women to learn His laws.

I was finally able to blog about the challenge! I expounded on this in my post, but I decided to double the number and memorize 104 instead. The first verses I'll be doing are Psalm 1:1-6 (the whole chapter). I should have them finished by the end of this week. :)

My verse is James 4:10..."Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord and He shall lift you up."

This verse is very important to me, because I think it is so important for us to come before the Lord with a meek, humble heart. For His service, the Lord will not use the proud, but the humble.

This week I'm continuing with the "worrying" theme. Since I have been known all my life to be a worrier I figure I can't have too many "worry" verses in my repertoire. :-)

"Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God."
~ Philippians 4:6

Thank you so much for hosting this Bible verse challenge! I am always happy for encouragement to hide God's Word! :)

Psalm 119:41-48
[Deep breath, memory straining]
Let thy mercies come also unto me, O Lord, even thy salvation, according to thy word. So shall I have wherewith to answer him that reproacheth me, for I trust in thy word. And take not the word of truth out of my mouth, for I hope in thy judgments. So shall I keep thy law continually, for ever and ever. I will also walk at liberty, for I will keep thy precepts. I will speak of thy testimonies before kings, and I will not be ashamed. I will delight myself in thy commandments, which I have loved. My hands also will I lift up unto thy commandments, which I have loved, and I will meditate on thy statutes.

Whew! I meant to memorize only the part about standing before kings, but the rest was too good, especially the part about being able to answer those who reproach me. The whole passage (this is vav from Psalm 119, by the way) seems like it is written for the early church, where Christians were dragged before kings and rulers and were able to speak unashamedly before them and give answers to hard questions. I personally believe it will not be long before this will become true in modern America too.

This psalm also makes me think of a Christian who is willing to do anything, go anywhere, sacrifice anything, in order to maintain the righteousness that God expects. A great reminder for every day!

Good Morning! For this week, I have chosen to memorize the Beatitudes -- Matthew 5:3-10.
Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.
Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth.
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness for they shall be fill.
Blessed are the merciful, for they shall be shown mercy.
Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.
Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called children of God.
Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

May you all have a blessed week!

What a lovely verse! To continually repeat and share of the goodness of our Savior...

This week's verse for me is...

"fear not, for I am with you. Be not dismayed for I am your God. I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my Righteous right hand."

Isaiah 41:10

Is it not a beautiful promises, knowing that the Lord is with us always?

Blessings,
~Shannon~

Great verses you selected!

My verses are Psalm 139:23-24. I want to be molded and shaped by Him completely...fully submitting to His ways and not my own.

Thanks again for hosting this challenge! It is so encouraging to join others in the study of God's Word!

Blessings,
Katie

I've been so encouraged by reading everyones chosen verses. The word that God has given me this year is "Work". This week the chosen verse is Colossians 3:23-24 "Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord and not men, since you know you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving. The word "heart" means..life, soul, heart, mind...the inner person and the word "serve" means enslaved. I will need a lot of God's help to achieve this verse...but its not about perfection its about progress.

"The Lord will fulfill his purpose for me; your love, O Lord, endures forever--do not abandon the works of your hands." Psalm 138:8

A promise, a praise, and a plea.

The verses I learnt were:

"Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded." - James 4:6-7

"But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you." - Matthew 6:33

What powerful promises! Likewise this:

"The LORD hath appeared of old unto me, saying, Yea, I have loved thee with an everlasting love: therefore with lovingkindness have I drawn thee." - Jeremiah 31:3

This has been my prayer:

"Open thou mine eyes, that I may behold wondrous things out of thy law." - Psalm 119:18

And lastly, 1 Peter 1:6-7 for the MOHL challenge.

I love memorizing scripture! My verse for last week (which I wasn’t able to post) is Philippians 4:4-7. Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.

Lots of love,
Kelly-Anne
