"Let us walk honestly as in the day, not in rioting and drunkenness, not in chambering and wantonness, not in strife and envying."
Romans 13:13
When reading through a verse like this, I am often guilty of doing a little "self-righteous check."
"No rioting" - check
"No drunkennes" - check
"No chambering" - check
"No wantonness" - check
"No strife and envying" - um . . .
We often forget that in God's eyes, there are no "big sins" and "little sins." We look at drunk drivers and think, "I would
never be guilty of drinking and driving!" and then we turn around to argue with our sister or grit our teeth in envy of those around us.
Romans 13:14 (the very next verse) says, "But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfil the lusts thereof." On our own, no sin can be conquered. The key is to walk in Christ and fight against the lusts of the flesh. On by Christ can sins be conquered - whether it is drunkenness or envy.
