“For he that will love life, and see good days, let him refrain
his tongue from evil, and his lips that they speak no guile:” 1 Peter 3:10
I memorized this verse when I was just eleven or twelve –
but going through 1 Peter 3, I have had to re-memorize it. There is not much to
comment on this verse, because it is clear. James 3:2 reminds us, “For in many things we offend all. If any
man offend not in word, the same is a perfect man, and able also to bridle the
whole body.”

Yet true godliness with contentment is itself great wealth. After all, we brought nothing with us when we came into the world, and we can’t take anything with us when we leave it. So if we have enough food and clothing, let us be content. But people who long to be rich fall into temptation and are trapped by many foolish and harmful desires that plunge them into ruin and destruction.
