Week 6 of 52!

And whosoever will be chief among you, let him be your servant;
Matthew 20:27

This continues the thought from last week, but in itself is a good single verse to remember. In girls’ language: “Am I trying to be the popular girl, or the girl behind the scenes?” As I ponder this, I realize that it goes much deeper than the doing level. It penetrates to the motive. I might be a “servant-girl” on the outside but inwardly yearning to be that popular girl over there. Or, I might be that servant-girl with the motive to be noticed and exalted. May we strive to keep our motives – as well as our actions – obedient to this verse.

What verse have you memorized this week?
If you have not reviewed all of your memory verses, why don’t you take a few minutes to go over them slowly?

Very true indeed!

My sixth verse for this year is:

"Delight yourself in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart."

Psalm 37:4

Lots of love,
Kelly

Your verse is one that is so precious! I love most of Psalm 37. The thing that sticks out to me every time I read verse 4 is that the key is to "delight ourselves in the Lord." Amazingly, when we spend more time with God, our desires start to line up with His desires. May we all grow more to be like Him!

Yes that is true the more time we spend with God the more of my desires line up with his.

This week I continue to focus on the armor of God. Ephesians 6:15 and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. I've read different meanings to this piece of armor. One that we are to be ready to share the gospel another is the the peace that passes all understanding, which only God can give..which guards our hearts and minds. A trust in God no matter the circumstances. I'm not sure which it is or if its both but both meanings are important. I'd love to hear what you all think.

Yes! I can certainly see that now - I remember when I was much younger how I thought so differently and prayed so differently, asking for many 'things'.

But now as I have begun to really delight myself in the Lord my desires are no longer for the things of this earth but of God Himself - for the things which are eternal!

It really is incredible how He teaches us so much and then decides to bless us with 'our heart's desires' when we submit to Him...

Many blessings,
Kelly

Thank you for sharing both your verse and your thoughts of your verse with us!

As for my personal thoughts, both of your definitions are Scripturally sound. :) But I have always thought of your first definition: that we are to be equipped and ready to share God's Gospel of peace (which also parallels with 1 Peter 3:15).

Ephesians 6 is definitely a good challenge to embrace and obey as Christians!

Amen! The more we grow in Christ and surrender to Christ, the more our desires are those that are Christ-worthy. :)

A verse that comes to mind is 1 John 2:15, "Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him." A good reminder to "set {our} affection on things above, not on things of the earth," (Colossians 3:2) because "The world passeth away and the lusts thereof, but he that doeth the will of God abideth forever." (1 John 2:17)

May we all keep our eyes on Christ!
