--2 of 52--

"Having therefore these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God." 2 Corinthians 7:1 (KJV)

As I began memorizing this verse, the question popped up, "What promises?" To find the answer was pretty simple: look at the verses before this verse. 2 Corinthians 6:16-18, "And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my  people. Wherefore, come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you, and will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty." At the conclusion of this passage about being separate, we have 2 Corinthians 7:1, which challenges us to purify the filthiness out of our system - our spiritual life.

What is your memory verse for this week?

Be sure to review the memory verse(s) from last week. The goal is to have God's Word hidden in our hearts . . . and by continually reviewing the memory verses from this week and last week, we will be accomplishing this goal.

My verse for this week is:

"Draw nigh unto God, and he will draw nigh unto you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded."
James 4:8

In our walk with Christ is is SO important to draw nigh unto the Lord, and to ask Him daily to cleanse us from our sin.

My second verse of the year:

2 Timothy 2:3-4
"Thou therefore endure hardness, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ. No man that warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of this life, that he may please him who hath chosen him to be a soldier."

I have felt the Lord "hardening" me in this last year--not just me, but the Christians around me, young and old--and I feel that in the days to come, this passage will become more and more applicable. This is a real spiritual war, and that means no compromise with sin, no moment to lay down my Sword and rest, no time to whine over wounds, no looking back at the old life as Lot's wife did, no holding onto the hope of life in the future. It's all on the line. It's time to follow the Captain into the heart of the battle.

Mine was the 1 Peter 4-5. It's been so neat to be memorizing these verses and thinking about them.

Yes, as one of God's beloved, I pray that the Words of that verse are a reality in my life ~ I owe Him my whole life! :) Great verse to meditate on!

The verse I chose is: Proverbs 30:5. So grateful His Word is pure and perfect!

For week 2, I chose Hebrews 12:1-3: "Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles and let us run with perseverence the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before, He endured the cross scorning its shame and sat down at the right hand of the Throne of God. Consider Him who endured such opposition from sinners so that you will not grow weary and lose heart."

I love this verse as it is both challenging and encouraging. I need to set my eyes and focus on Jesus alone. I chose to memorize this verse so I can remind myself of this when things of this world and my human thinking get in the way of God's will.

Before Christmas and before I knew about this Blog I asked God for a word for the year. Then I found your blog and felt drawn to try this challenge. Thats when God guided me to the word "work". So my second verse is from Proverbs 16:3 Commit your works to the Lord and your plans will be established. I learned that commit means roll...we are to roll our works onto Jesus. I also learned that works...plans..can also mean thoughts. Lastly establish means secured. I love this verse. Carol Oliver

My verse for this week is Ephesians 6:1-4:

"Children obey your parents because you are Christians. This is the right thing to do. Honor your father and mother that everything may go well for you, and you may have a long life on earth. This is an important commandment with a promise. Fathers, don't make your children bitter about life. Instead, bring them up in Christian discipline and instruction."

Have a wonderful week further!

My 2nd week verse:

" All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished until all good work"

2 Timothy 3:16-17

My post: Week Two

Finally got the chance to get it on here! I promise that I had this memorized at the beginning of the week!
My verse was Hebrews 1:10
"And thou, Lord, in the beginning hast laid the foundation of the earth, and the heavens are the works of thine hands."
My dad had taught about "in the beginning" for Sunday school last week, and this verse just jumped out to me from the page. I thought it was interested how there is only one foundation of one earth mentioned. (I guess that conflicts with today's claims of another earth that has life.)
How great our God is! It awes me just to go outside and think about all the different aspects of creation, heavens and earth, that He made with ease and exactness.

My verses for week 2 are:

1 Thessalonians 5:16-18
"Rejoice always. Pray without ceasing. In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you."

I also continued with Psalm 91 and memorised verses 6-8. And I worked on 1 Peter 1:4-5 for the 1 Peter challenge.

My second verse this year was Matthew 6:34...
"Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own".
