--5 of 52--

“For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this; Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.”
Galatians 5:16

Jesus also mentioned love and the law:
Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets. (Matthew 22:37-40)

If wethink of the Ten Commandments briefly, we will discover that they fall under two categories: Love for God and love for others.

-Love for God-
Thou shalt have no other gods before me.
Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth: Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me; And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments.
Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain; for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.
Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work: But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates:
For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.
(Exodus 20:3-11)

-Love for Others-
Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee.
Thou shalt not kill.
Thou shalt not commit adultery.
Thou shalt not steal.
Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour.
Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any thing that is thy neighbour's.
(Exodus 20:12-17)

What is your fifth verse of this challenge?
Why did you choose it?
Are you faithfully reviewing your last four verses?

My memory verses for this week are 1 Peter 1:10-11, "Of which salvation the prophets have enquired and searched diligently, who prophesied of the grace that should come unto you: Searching what, or what manner of time the Spirit of Christ which was in them did signify, when it testified beforehand the sufferings of Christ, and the glory that should follow." I am trying to revise my previous verses as often as possible. :)

I plan to memorize Ephesians 6:10-18 (about spiritual warfare and the armor of God). I am taking it in small chunks this time, a verse or two at a time. This week I'm memorizing verses 10 and 11:

Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. Put on the whole armor of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.

In the last year, I feel as if the spiritual battle has ramped up in my own life; yet I keep seeing God give incredible victories. It's still hard to stand and not to compromise, so verses like these encourage me not to give up, but to press forward in God's power. I am looking forward to seeing Him do great things in me and through me.

Still reviewing my other verses... They're a big comfort and I keep getting more out of them!

Jesus looked at them and said, "With man this is impossible, but not with God; all things are possible with God." Mark 10:27

I chose this verse because so many times what I need to accomplish in a day FEELS impossible to me! But I know Jesus can help me--both to weed out what does not need to be done, as well as to do what really does need to be done. To separate the urgent from the important.

I am trying to review my first four verses, but I admit that sometimes I am mixing them up. But I will keep reviewing! Thank you so much for doing this 52/52! It is very encouraging!

Well, I am starting my third verse - hoping to be able add a second one this week because it was fairly short.
Thank you for reminding us to review them - that is something I have not always done in the past & then "poof!" a month later it is all gone!
Here are the verses I have been working on so far:
Hebrews 4:14,15,16
"Therefore, since we have a high priest who has gone through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to the faith that we profess.
"For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with us in our weaknesses, but we have one who was tempted in every way, just as we are - yet was without sin.
"Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence that we might recieve mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need."

Greetings! For Week 5, I chose to memorize 1 Corinthians 13:4-7:
"Love is patient, love is kind. It does not boast, it does not envy, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking. It is not easily angered; it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices in the truth. Love always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres."

This is a passage that I believe we should have on hearts every moment of the day. Already, since I started memorizing this, it has really challenged me when faced with challenging or frustrating situations during the day. How different it is to approach our challenges and conflicts with love rather than an often unkind, impatient, dishonoring, and/or self-seeking response! Love is the greatest commandment. It is my greatest desire to live a life overflowing with the Christ-like love expressed in this verse.

P.S. Yes, I have been reviewing my verses! :)

Oh! I just realized that is is now Thursday, and I have not shared my verse yet! Oops! Better late than never! :)
This week, I am memorizing Philippians 3:7,"But what things were gain to me, those I counted loss for Christ." I have always liked this verse, but even more now that I understand it. This verse is saying that those things which we longed for{possibly material things} before we knew Christ, are gone now. But, we are counting them as rubbish, for the cause of Christ, and they don't mean anything to us anymore, now that we have Jesus.
Yes, I have been reviewing my verses! :)

Have a great week, everyone!!

Mine was a simple verse this week, but I got so much out of it!

"Seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you."
Matthew 6:33 (I think!)

God has really been pointing me to the simplicity that is in Christ. If only I could learn to simply focus on Him, then everything else would fall into place, and life wouldn't be so difficult!
